International Fellowships are given by AAUW, the American Association of University Women, to women who are neither citizens or permanent residents of the United States for full-time study or research in the country. In addition Support is provided for graduate and postgraduate study at recognised universities.
International Fellowships was established in 1917 with the goal of giving Latin American women access to graduate and postgraduate study opportunities in the United States. More than 3,600 women from more than 150 countries have received International Fellowships since the program’s inception, which currently includes women from all over the world. Eligibility Criteria:
In order to qualify for an AAUW Fellowship, candidates need to fulfil the necessary requirements:
- English is the required language.
- All nations worldwide, excluding the United States, are eligible.
- Possess a non-immigrant visa if living in the United States, or hold citizenship in a nation other than the United States. Women who hold U.S. citizenship, permanent residency in the United States, or dual citizenship with another nation, either now or at any point during the fellowship year, are not eligible.
- Possess an academic credential (obtained domestically or overseas) that, by November 15, 2022, is equal to a U.S. bachelor’s degree.
- Intend to devote herself full-time to the proposed academic plan during the fellowship year.
- Intend to return to her home country in order to pursue a professional career.
- Have fluency in the English language. The applicant must upload a recent ETS TOEFL* (Test of English as a Foreign Language) score unless she can demonstrate that she is native to English (written statement required), that her undergraduate degree or secondary diploma was earned from an English-speaking institution (transcript required), or that she will have finished one semester of full-time study in her discipline at an English-speaking college or university between November 2023 and November 2024 (transcript required). Scores from other English proficiency tests (such the IELTS) and the institutional TOEFL will not be accepted. Acceptable minimum scores are 550 on the paper test, 79 on the internet test, and 60 on the revised paper test for the TOEFL.

- Doctorate and master’s degree candidates must have applied by November 15, 2022, to a recognised university for the fellowship year, and they must include the name of the university in their international fellowship application.
fellowships for master’s or first professional degrees are meant for programmes leading to master’s or professional degrees, such as M.D., D.D.S., J.D., M.F.A., L.L.M., or M.Arch.
Other Eligibility
- Doctorate degrees, such the Ph.D. or Ed.D., are the focus of doctoral fellowships.
Postdoctoral candidates must show proof of their doctorate; by November 15, 2024, they must hold a doctorate recognised as a research degree (e.g., Ph.D., Ed.D., D.B.A., D.M.) or an M.F.A.; and they must specify the location of their study. - During the fellowship year, candidates for doctorates and master’s degrees must enrol at a U.S.-accredited institution located in the United States.
- GWI members are eligible to apply for a restricted number of prizes to do research or study abroad. However Keep in mind that foreign branches of American companies are viewed as being outside of the nation.
- Candidates must be engaged in study or research for the entire calendar year. There is no funding available for a partial year of study or research through international fellowships. Programmes that conclude before the fellowship year’s April are not eligible.
- Doctoral fellowships and master’s/first professional degree support conventional classroom-based courses at colleges and institutions. Online courses, distance learning, and degrees with significant distance learning components are not eligible for financing under this fellowship programme. In addition AAUW will make the final determination of what qualifies as distant learning for these fellowships.
