Scholarship amounts for bachelor’s and master’s degrees:

  • The cost of international travel is limited to one round-trip ticket every academic year for economy class travel on airlines certified by the IATA.
  • Monthly living allowance: 1150 euros for a year.
  • 150 Euros is the indirect mission fee. This sum is awarded to the grantee upon arrival, once per stay.
  • 700 € for return fees, tuition, and arrival allowance. This sum is awarded to the grantee upon arrival, once per stay.
  • For DGD grantees, registration costs at the current rate
  • ARES immediately pays insurance premiums.
  • Receipts are required, and actual expenditures incurred will be used to cover travel expenses related to inter-university training.

Grant amounts for training courses:

  • Living allowance: 83 € per day for stays of 8 to 17 days; 1400 € per month (fixed amount) for stays of 18 days to 1 month; 1400 € per month (prorated to the number of days) for stays of 1 to 6 months.

  • ARES immediately pays insurance premiums.
  • Travel costs for inter-university training programmes are compensated based on actual costs spent, and receipts must be submitted.

Eligibility Criteria:

In order to qualify for ARES Scholarships, candidates need to fulfil the subsequent requirements:

  • Languages Required: French and English
  • Citizens of Benin, Bolivia, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cambodia, Cameroon, Cuba, Ecuador, Ethiopia (limited to English-language training programmes), Haiti, Madagascar, Morocco, Niger, Peru, the Philippines, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Rwanda, Senegal, and Vietnam are eligible.
  • Hold the nationality of an emerging nation. Applicants must be living and employed in their nation of origin at the time of application in order to be eligible.
  • Be under 45 for training courses and under 40 for degree programmes at the time the training is planned to start.
  • Have obtained a degree from Belgian universities that is on par with a graduate degree. Nevertheless, other prerequisites could be needed for particular training programmes.
  • Have at least two years of relevant work experience in a developing nation following graduation from graduate school, or three years of experience if the applicant holds a post-graduate degree from an institution in an industrialised nation.
  • Possess a strong command of both written and spoken French. A sufficient proficiency in the spoken and written language of the course is required for training sessions conducted in a foreign language. To apply for ARES Masters and Internship Scholarships, please read the following crucial instructions:

  • First things first, make sure your GIRAF account is current.
    • Using this link, you can register for an account on the GIRAF platform. Don’t create more than one account; ARES will authenticate this one in a few hours to a few days. You will receive a confirmation email with instructions on how to create a password.
    • You can use the verified account you made last year and, if needed, change your password.
  • You may find the application form on the Competitive calls tab of your GIRAF profile after logging into your GIRAF account. Please be aware that the “International training application 2025-2026” button can only be clicked once.
  • Your form can subsequently be found in the Competitive calls’ My Tasks section.
  • If you select the option to “Save and edit later,” you are able to fill out your form more than once. Every time, you will discover your form in GIRAF’s Competitive calls tab’s My Tasks table.
  • Your application is sent to ARES as soon as you click “Submit my application,” and you are unable to change it after that. It is still available for review in the table under My submitted files.
