Upon completion, the most accomplished fellows will also be qualified to apply for ICGEB Early Career Research Grants, which will enable them to support their own research projects as young principal investigators when they return to an ICGEB Member State.
Five different types of long- and short-term PhD and postdoctoral awards are available to scientists who are nationals of ICGEB Member States to conduct research in Trieste, New Delhi, or Cape Town through the ICGEB Arturo Falaschi Fellowship Programmes, which are named in honour of Prof. Arturo Falaschi, the brains and driving force behind the Centre at its inception. Financial Benefits:
Falaschi Arturo Benefits of Postdoctoral Fellowships include the following for the recipient:
- Monthly stipend: 2,000 euros in Trieste, Italy; 1,590 dollars in New Delhi, India; and 23,000 South African Rands in Cape Town.
- journey: The fellowship covers the cost of the participant’s first journey from their home country to the ICGEB lab as well as their return trip at the end of the fellowship.
- Throughout the fellowship, there is reimbursement for medical expenses.
- The budget of the study group will cover all research expenses.
- The application and renewal fees for visas and permits of stay are compensated.
- The Group Leader / PI typically offers support for attending meetings and courses.
- The ICGEB is unable to offer any financial assistance or administrative help to programme participants’ families.
Accommodation:
- ICGEB Trieste: There are no lodging options or housing services available at ICGEB Trieste. On the other hand, a list of potential contacts with Trieste housing alternatives will be sent to fellows.
- ICGEB New Delhi: For a small fee, a guest house is operated on campus for twin-share stays.
- ICGEB Cape Town: Fellows receive assistance with housing. Plans are made in advance of arrival.

- Statement of self.
- Three (3) references who are willing to write a letter of recommendation for you. One of these should be a current student at the university or college you most recently attended.
Eligibility Criteria:
The following criteria must be met in order for an applicant to be eligible for an Arturo Falaschi Postdoctoral Fellowship:
- English is the language that is required.
- Countries Eligible: Applicants must be citizens of an ICGEB Member State. They are not eligible to apply for fellowships to be completed in their home country unless they have been employed abroad for the previous three years at the time of application.
- Qualifications: Candidates should have a recent PhD in the biological sciences.
- The candidate needs to have three years or more of research experience.
- Under-35-year-old candidates are given preference.
