Eligibility Criteria:
The university is in charge for making sure its candidates meet the CSC’s eligibility criteria. To apply for Commonwealth Distance Learning Scholarship, candidates must:
- Be a citizen of, or be granted refugee status in, an eligible developing Commonwealth country (see overleaf), or be a British Protected Person.
- Be permanently resident in a developing Commonwealth country (see overleaf).
- Hold a first degree of at least upper second class (2:1) standard. A lower qualification and sufficient relevant experience may be considered in certain cases.
- Be unable to afford to study the programme without this scholarship.
- Commonwealth Distance Learning Scholarships may not be held concurrently for more than one course.
- If selected for a scholarship, candidates must be residents and remain in an eligible developing Commonwealth country and must not undertake study towards any other qualification for the duration of their award.

Commonwealth Distance Learning Scholarship Selection Process for:
A recruitment process for a specified number of candidates for Distance Learning Scholarships will be conducted by each participating UK university. Universities must put forward their selected candidates to the CSC by 9 May 2024. The selection of these candidates who meets the eligibility criteria for this scheme will be confirmed by CSC. Universities will inform candidates of their results by July 2024.
Selection criteria include:
- Academic merit of the candidate.
- The promising effect of the work on the development of the candidate’s home country.
Application Process:
You must apply to study an eligible Master’s course at a UK university that is participating in the Commonwealth Distance Learning Scholarship scheme.
- You must also secure admission to your course in addition to applying for a Distance Learning Scholarship.
- Candidate must check with your chosen university for their specific advice on when to apply, admission requirements, and rules for applying.
- Candidate must make an application using the CSC’s online application system, in addition to any other application that you are required to complete by your chosen university. The CSC will not accept any applications that are not submitted via the online application system.You can apply for more than one course and/or to more than one university, but you may only accept one offer of a Distance Learning Scholarship.
All applications must be submitted by 16.00 (GMT) on 28 March 2024 at the latest.
Your application must include the following supporting documentation by 16:00 (GMT) on 28 March 2024 in order for your application to be eligible for consideration:
- Proof that the applicant is a citizen or has refugee status in an eligible Commonwealth country: a copy of a valid passport (or national ID card) showing a photograph, date of birth, and country of citizenship
- Full transcripts detailing all higher education qualifications, including to-date transcripts for any courses currently being studied, with certified translations if not in English
- References from at least two individuals, on institutional letterhead or an email clearly showing the sender’s details
The CSC will not accept supporting documentation submitted outside the online application system.
When uploading the Supporting documentation to the online application system must be uploaded as files that are no more than 5 MB in size and must be in one of the following formats: PDF, .doc, .docx, .odt, .jpg, .jpeg. Applicants must seek permission from their referees in advance in submitting their application ; and ensure that their referees are available to finish the reference by the deadline and have received the reference request email from the online application system.
