Eligibility Criteria:

For the ADB-Japan Scholarship Program to be considered, applicants must fulfil the following requirements:

  • Citizenship: Applicants must be citizens of a nation that borrows money from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and be eligible for the Japanese ODA scholarship.
  • Dual Citizenship: It is strictly forbidden to own two citizenships in any industrialised nation.
    Admission: Candidates must be accepted into a master’s program that has been authorised at a designated institution.
  • Educational Requirements: Candidates should have demonstrated exceptional academic achievement and hold a bachelor’s degree or its equivalent.
  • Professional Experience: At the time of application, candidates must have at least two years of full-time professional work experience following the completion of a university degree. A strong foundation in both written and oral English communication is necessary for academic achievement.
  • Age Requirement: Unless there are exceptional circumstances approved by the Japanese government, applicants should not be older than 35 at the time of application.
  • Health and Dedication: In order to contribute to the program’s development, candidates must be in good health and make a commitment to stay and work in their home country for at least two years after it ends.
  • Relationship and Employment: Applicants cannot be employed by Executive Directors, Alternate Directors, management, staff, or consultants of ADB, nor can they be closely related to any of them by blood or adoption (spouse, parent, sibling, child, aunt, uncle, niece, or nephew). They should also not be living or working abroad, nor should they be employees of ADB-JSP Designated Institutions.
