scholarships for PhD candidates, foreign students, faculty members, researchers, and artists at universities In order to promote student mobility, including that of PhD candidates, university instructors, researchers, and artists, the Slovak Republic’s government authorised the National Scholarship Programme’s foundation in 2005.
The Ministry of Education, Science, Research, and Sport of the Slovak Republic provides funding for the National Scholarship Programme (NSP). International students, PhD candidates, university instructors, researchers, and artists are encouraged to apply for scholarships under the Slovak Republic’s National Scholarship Programme in order to study and do research in Slovakian higher education institutions and research organisations. Also apply for Fully Funded) DAAD Helmut Schmidt Scholarship for 2024–25 in Germany.

Financial Benefits:
The following advantages will be given to the recipient of the National Scholarship Programme:
- The scholarship is meant to support the living expenses of recipients of international scholarships, which include travel, lodging, and other living expenses, while they are studying, conducting research, creating art, or teaching in Slovakian universities and research institutions. The recipient of the scholarship may ask his or her host institution for help with housing and other requirements associated to entering and remaining on Slovak Republic territory, or they may take care of all the requirements on their own.

Eligibility Criteria:
In order to be eligible for the National Scholarship Programme, the applicant must to meet each of the standards listed below:
- Language(s) Needed: English
- All nations across the world are eligible.
- Students who attend colleges or institutions outside of Slovakia.
- Students enrolled in master’s programmes at the second level of higher education, or those who, at the time of the application deadline, had completed at least 2.5 years of study in the same programme; those who will be studying in Slovakia while pursuing their higher education outside of the country; and those who have been granted admission to a public, private, or state university in Slovakia as part of an academic mobility programme.Candidates who meet the requirements for a scholarship under the NSP:A).
- PhD candidates who received their scientific training or higher education outside of Slovakia and who are accepted into a public, private, or state university or research institution in Slovakia that is qualified to offer academic mobility1—that is. The opportunity to study, conduct research, or engage in artistic endeavours—for a doctoral study programs (such as the Slovak Academy of Sciences).
The National Scholarship Programme opposes the following actions:
- Foreign students and PhD candidates approved for full higher education (bachelor, master, and doctorate studies) in Slovakia, as well as those enrolled in full higher education programmes currently in Slovakia and desiring to have their studies funded by the NSP should apply.
- International applicants who have spent a total of 12 months or more on Slovak territory within the 36 months prior to the application deadline;
- International applicants who are receiving a scholarship in Slovakia as part of other public resource-funded scholarship programmes (e.g. International Visegrad Fund, Erasmus+, CEEPUS, bilateral agreements, etc.)

Kindly adhere to the subsequent guidelines for applying to the National Scholarship Programme:
First Action:
- Candidates must complete their online applications and provide all necessary attachments in the appropriate formats.
- Only Slovak or English applications may be submitted, along with the necessary attachments. Documents written in other languages must be officially translated into Slovak or English; this translation can be verified by the organisation that originally issued the original document.
- It is required to upload a scan of any documents that are attached to the application and were issued by someone other than the applicant, such as letters of recommendation, transcripts of study, diplomas, diploma supplements, state examination certificates, admission letters, and invitations. All original documents that the applicant attached to the online application in electronic format must be kept and archived. If asked, the applicant must also provide the programme administrator with the original documents or certified copies of the originals.
Second Action:
- After completing the application and attaching all necessary files, the candidate needs to click the “SEND” button to send the application. The original admission/invitation letter must also be delivered to SAIA, n. o. in Bratislava (SAIA, n. o., Sasinkova 10, 812 20 Bratislava 1).
- This document must be supplied by 12 p.m. on the third working day following the application deadline, at the latest (the legal situation in Slovakia is taken into consideration when establishing the working days).
