The Helen Hay Whitney Fellowship invites submissions from overseas students interested in pursuing a postdoctoral degree for the academic year 2025. This scholarship gives financial help up to $60,000 per year.

Helen Hay Whitney Fellowship winners receive the following benefits:

Eligibility Criteria:
To be eligible for a Helen Hay Whitney Fellowship, a candidate must fulfil the following requirements:
- English is the required language.
- All nations across the world are eligible.
Note: In order to be eligible for a fellowship, a foreign person must possess both a legitimate local residency status and the authority to work in the country where the fellowship is being applied for. This includes individuals from conflict zones.
- Candidates seeking initial postdoctoral training in fundamental biomedical research who possess, or are close to attaining, a Ph.D., M.D., or a degree comparable.
- Applicants must have received a PhD (or D.Phil. or equivalent) degree no later than two years prior to the application deadline, or an M.D. degree no later than three years prior, and must have no more than a year of postdoctoral research experience at the time of application submission.
- Fellowships for research conducted only in US labs may be available to foreign nationals. and it is projected that at the time of submission, the majority of candidates will reside in North America.
- Typically, the Foundation won’t take into consideration applications from candidates who intend to spend their fellowship tenure in the same laboratory where they completed their intensive postdoctoral or predoctoral training.
- Enhancing postdoctoral training and experience is the goal of the fellowship, and a major venue change is suggested.
- As mandated by US Immigration, foreign students must get the necessary visa papers.
- “Postdoctoral laboratory training” does not apply to clinical house staff training.
- We will not be considering applications from advanced fellows or established scientists. Only early postdoctoral training is eligible for the fellowships.
- Every year in November, there is a two-day Annual Meeting of Fellows where each third-year Fellow presents the findings of their research. The possibility for scientific exchange and exposure to biological fields beyond the Fellows’ own is why this meeting is a crucial part of the Fellowship Programme. To be qualified for the fellowship, you must attend the full meeting.
