Eligibility Criteria:

General Conditions
  • Nationality and Residency: You have to be a Chinese citizen living in the nation at the moment.
  • Return Intent: Upon completion of the fellowship, applicants must exhibit a clear intention to return to China.
  • Academic Requirements: Have a postgraduate degree or comparable work experience in a related subject.
  • Professional Experience: Be a current PhD candidate (with the exception of US, UK, and EU universities) or have at least five years of significant and relevant job experience.
  • No more than one British nationality may be held by an applicant; however, there are some exceptions as stated in the Chevening Guidance for Applicants.
Limitations on Employment
  • Employment with the Government: Ineligible to work for the UK government or any of its connected institutions, including the British Council, UK universities, and the Association of Commonwealth Universities, either as an employee now or in the past, or as a relative* of an employee.
  • Recipients of Past Scholarships: Applicants who have previously received a scholarship or fellowship from the UK government may reapply after a five-year hiatus. However, they must show that their career has advanced since receiving the prior award.
  • Chevening Partner Organisations: Employees, former employees, and family members* of Chevening Partner Organisations may apply; however, they cannot receive an award from the same business within two years of beginning employment there.

Application Process:

The time to submit an application is now available and ends on November 5, 2024. The rigorous selection procedure begins with preliminary eligibility verifications and ends with independent reading committees carefully assessing research ideas. Interview invitations are sent to the shortlisted individuals, and in May 2025, the results are made public.
