Financial Benefits:
The Schmidt Science Fellows programme will provide a $100,000 stipend and support participants in pursuing a full-time, postdoctoral study in a field unrelated to their current area of expertise for at least a year at a world-class laboratory. - Global aspirations: The desire to leave a lasting impression on society and the sciences by pursuing information that will benefit everyone on the planet through big research projects that require a great deal of tenacity and risk-taking throughout the scientific method.
- Character: a sincere and observable interest in society and global issues coupled with a drive to apply one’s skills and knowledge to improve the world.
- Collaborative spirit: Proven track record of productive teamwork with a variety of team members.

Eligibility Criteria:
The following are the requirements for eligibility for the University of British Columbia Fellowships in Canada for 2025:
- Candidates from abroad, permanent residents, and Canadians.
- The candidate must have a graduate degree in computer science, engineering, or one of the natural sciences, such as astronomy, biology, chemistry, physics, or earth sciences.
- PhD completion required, or anticipated between June 1, 2023, and July 30, 2024. (Ph.D. completion required at UBC).
- Must be accessible for the whole July 2024–September 2025 timeframe, which includes the Global Meeting.
Application Process:
Applicants for the University of British Columbia Fellowships must send their graduate programme application materials. An application that is comprehensive will include the following:
- The nominee’s resume, with a maximum of three pages containing publications.
- The nominee’s statement, which should not exceed one page, should cover the following two points:
- compatibility with the Schmidt Fellows programme; desire to pursue a year or more of postdoctoral research in an area unrelated to the dissertation subject; cooperative spirit; proven track record of productive

- The nominee’s proposal, which should not exceed two pages and address the following two points:
- possible avenue for postdoctoral research.
- a succinct justification for three possible postdoctoral fellowship labs.
