Over the course of four years, Forrest PhD Scholars are awarded a comprehensive package of scholarships worth over AU$250,000. Included in this package are:
Stipend for Research Training Program
- A Research Training Program (RTP) Stipend, or an equivalent university postgraduate research scholarship, is awarded to each scholar. In 2024, the yearly value of the stipend will be $32,192–$37,000, with annual indexing. The enrolling university sets the ultimate amount.
Luxury Accommodation at Forrest Hall
- At Forrest Hall, scholars reside in opulent, independent studio suites. This special living experience is paid for by the accommodation allowance, which is valued at $24,128 in 2024 (subject to annual indexation). Should an exemption be granted, this amount may be used to offset the cost of additional residential housing.
Allowance for Research and Relocation Travel
- In addition to a relocation stipend for economy airfare to Perth for the scholar and any immediate dependents, a research and travel allowance of up to $12,000 is offered. Travel to conferences, overseas research, and research-related expenses can all be covered by this allowance.
Scholarships for both domestic and international fees
- foreign Forrest Scholars: Get an RTP Fees Offset Scholarship, or something similar, which pays for all foreign tuition and international health insurance for students studying abroad.

Eligibility Criteria:
The highly competitive Forrest PhD Scholarships are available to applicants who
- Possess a First-Class Honours grade bachelor’s degree, or a similar degree, normally ranking in the top 5% of their graduating class.
- Exhibit extraordinary ingenuity, perseverance, and intellectual brilliance.
- Showcase excellent communication abilities and a keen interest in the topic of their choice.
- Make a noteworthy and innovative research proposal that has the potential to benefit both Western Australia and the global community.
- Have spoken with a potential PhD supervisor who has consented to oversee them about their research objectives.
