More than 120 universities exist, including seven important universities included in the National 211 Project and Wuhan University and Huazhong University of Science and Technology, two of China’s Top Ten Universities. By the end of 2010, there were 1.4 million undergraduate students enrolled in Hubei’s higher education institutions, and 103 thousand postgraduate students. Financial Benefits:

There are five different categories for Hubei Government Scholarships:

  • Undergraduate scholarships are worth 10,000 RMB annually.
  • Graduate scholarships are worth 15,000 RMB annually.
  • PhD scholarships are worth 20,000 RMB annually.
  • The Advanced Scholar Scholarship (which includes visiting scholars; see below) is 10,000 RMB every six months or 20,000 RMB annually.

Scholarship Duration:

  • Candidates for undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate degrees at Chinese universities and colleges in the Beijing area should note that their scholarships should not last longer than four years.
  • Scholarship recipients for Chinese language instruction or related advanced study at Beijing-area Chinese universities and colleges should note that the award should not last longer than a year.
  • International students and scholars seeking specialised training at Beijing-area Chinese institutions and colleges: the scholarship should not last longer than a year.
  • Exchange students or those who have made exceptional contributions to Beijing’s foreign education system: the scholarship should not last longer than a year.

Documents Required:

  • Hubei Provincial Foreign Student Scholarship Application Form.
  • Authenticated copy of passport with highest diploma.
  • A notarised transcript or a certificate of employment.
  • A recommendation letter, a health certificate.
  • Legal documentation from a guardian in China are required for applicants under the age of eighteen.

Eligibility Criteria:

The applicant needs to meet each of the following criteria in order to be eligible for the Hubei Government Scholarship:

  • Language Requirements: The specific higher education institution will decide which languages are required of applicants depending on the requirements of their academic programmes.
  • All nations in the world are eligible, with the exception of Chinese nationals.
  • Candidates should be friendly with China and foreign nationals holding a legitimate passport.
  • Candidates should be well-mannered, diligent, have high grades, and be in good health.
  • Applicants for undergraduate scholarships must be at least 25 years old on average and hold a degree equivalent to or higher than a Chinese high school diploma.
  • Applicants for Graduate Scholarships must be at least 30 years old and hold a bachelor’s degree.
  • Applicants for the Doctorate Scholarship should have a master’s degree and be between the ages of 35 and 40.
  • All applicants for the General Scholar Scholarship must be between the ages of 40 and 40 on average. Chinese language scholars must have completed a higher school degree or above, professional scholars must have completed a bachelor’s degree or above, and university students must be enrolled in grade 2 or above.
  • Applicants for the Advanced Scholar Scholarship should be 50 years of age on average, have a master’s degree or above, and have an associate professor title.
  • No financial aid is provided by the Chinese government or any other organisations to applicants.
  • Fulfilling the program’s and the applied university’s admission standards.

Application Process:
