MOFA Taiwan Fellowship 2024 For International Students:
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) established the MOFA Taiwan Fellowship to support foreign specialists and academics conducting advanced research at Taiwanese universities or academic institutions who are interested in studying Taiwan, cross-strait relations, the Asia-Pacific region, or Sinology.
Thus far, this programme has accepted 934 academics from 78 different countries. Similar to the APEC Scholarship Initiative, the MOFA Taiwan Fellowship offers 12 Chinese Taipei APEC Fellowship positions annually, solely to researchers and experts from developing APEC economies. Financial Benefits:
The recipient of the MOFA Taiwan Fellowship receives the following benefits:
- The first of each month marks the payment of monthly awards.
- NT$60,000 for research fellows, associate research fellows, professors, and associate professors.
- Doctorate candidates, assistant professors, and assistant research fellows: NT$50,000.

- NT$1 million in accident insurance coverage (with a 50,000 NT$ medical insurance for unintentional injuries).
Note: The grantees are prohibited from receiving any scholarships from other governmental organisations, public or private academic institutions, or Taiwan-based schools while the Fellowship is in effect. Furthermore, grantees are not permitted to work part-time without MOFA’s approval.

Eligibility Criteria:
In order to be eligible for the MOFA Taiwan Fellowship, the applicant must to meet each of the following requirements:
- English is one of the required languages.
- All nations across the world are eligible.
- The recipients will be research fellows at an equivalent level in academic institutions abroad, or they will be foreign professors, associate professors, assistant professors, post-doctoral researchers, doctoral candidates, or students enrolled in doctoral programmes at comparable departments of foreign universities.
- Within three months following the project’s conclusion, the beneficiaries must send MOFA a written report of their research findings (at least twenty pages long).
- The recipients shall participate in pertinent events and scholarly seminars hosted by MOFA and hired organisers while they are in Taiwan.
Application Process:
To apply for the MOFA Taiwan Fellowship, kindly adhere to the following guidelines:
- Following your review of the application instructions, get the following paperwork ready:
- CV with a list of publication.
- Research project proposal.
- There are two recommendation letters and one agreement letter from your institution’s top administrative director.
- Complete the online form and attach the aforementioned files.
- Print the completed application and mail it to the representative office or embassy of the Republic of China.
Note: You can apply to your local ROC (Taiwan) embassy or representative office to postpone the grant’s implementation if you have circumstances that prevent you from travelling at this time. After that, the proposal will be examined by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The research must be finished by December 31 of the same year, if approval is given.
