Students who succeed in sport, whether through performance or coaching, are eligible for the Elite Sport Scholar Award. Therefore this is open to undergraduate, graduate, and overseas students. Students that apply and meet the requirements will have their applications considered for the prize, also this is given out based on scholastic merit and athletic accomplishments together.

Scholarships are awarded on an annual basis, and in order to be eligible for the programme for the remainder of their studies, students must continue to show their dedication to both their personal athletic development and Cardiff Met performance sport. The Elite Sport Scholar Award winner receives the following benefits:

Eligibility Criteria:

To be eligible for the Elite Sport Scholar Award, one must consider the following:

  • English is the required language.
  • All nations across the world are eligible.

In order to qualify for a scholarship, players need to:

  • be a student at Cardiff Metropolitan University, or planning to register in any course.
  • participate in a sanctioned British Universities & Colleges Sport (BUCS) competition and support the BUC goals of the university.
  • be competing on an international level or have to be the best in their sport, whether it be professional, national, or also international.
  • either their NGB coach or the university coach for their sport recommend.
  • Students must represent Cardiff Met in the BUCS competition in order to receive the scholarship.
  • Students will be expected to represent Cardiff Met in public settings and participate in marketing and promotion activities for the School of Sports and Health Science. Also Scholarships may be lost if this isn’t finished.
  • For the processing of the general campus allowance or catering, you must be a full-time student at Cardiff
  • Metropolitan University and have your Student ID Card.
  • The student will only receive the prize for years two and three if they successfully go to the next academic year.
  • The Performance Sport Panel will decide how to proceed with your level of sporting advancement before paying out the prize in years two and three.
  • The Foundation and other four-year degrees, as well as part-time or postgraduate students, will be taken into account for the award, even though there won’t normally be a fourth year.
  • If you have to retake a whole year’s worth of coursework without any mitigating conditions, you will not be eligible for the award. The Academic Handbook contains more details about mitigating circumstances.
  • Every year, you will need to reapply; the Head of Performance Sport will provide the paperwork for you to fill out.
  • Those attending franchise colleges are not eligible for this scholarship. To find out about available bursaries and scholarships, please get in touch with the college.
  • It is not possible for you to get the Postgraduate Scholarship and the Elite Sport Scholar award at the same time.
  • The goal of the prize package is to assist students in realising their greatest potential in the sport of their choice.
  • A panel consisting of the Head of Performance Sport, Sports Manager of the Students Union, and an academic staff member.
