Worth and Length

Those who obtain RSS and RRSS in 2025 will be eligible for the following benefits:

  • A $35,886 tax-exempt annual stipend (pro-rated for part-time study) will be provided; this amount is subject to annual indexation.
  • Instruction:
    • Students from abroad: either an RMIT Research International Tuition Fee Scholarship (RRITFS) or an RTP International Tuition Fee Offset Scholarship (RIFOS).
    • For domestic students, there is a maximum candidacy term RTP Fee Offset Scholarship that covers entire tuition prices.
    • Relocation: Up to $1,540 in one-time relocation funds to help with the recipient, partner, and children’s relocating costs.
    • Paid time off for illness, pregnancy, and parenthood (depending on scholarship terms and conditions).

Scholarship Length:

  • A doctorate typically requires three and a half years of full-time study.
  • Master’s: Two years of full-time study, no extensions allowed.

Note: For applicants with comparable past research experience, the scholarship time may be shortened.

Eligibility Criteria:

Scholarships are given out in a competitive manner according to academic standing, capacity for research, and relevant experience. A preference is granted to candidates who:

  • Attain superiority: Exhibit outstanding academic achievement, as evidenced by a recent study with a high distinction (80% or higher) or comparable credentials.
  • Invest time on research: can commit to the scholarship for at least 12 months full-time, or the equivalent, and haven’t finished a higher-level research degree.
  • Fulfil RMIT prerequisites: are enrolled or plan to register at an Australian campus of RMIT and satisfy the requirements for English language competence.
  • Respect the scholarship guidelines: have never previously held an RMIT or Commonwealth-funded research scholarship, unless it was cancelled early. Additionally, you won’t get any more awards that are worth more than 75% of the scholarship.

Particular Requirements for Eligibility

  • Part-time study: As stated in the Research Scholarship Terms and Conditions, this option may be available to domestic applicants in certain special cases. Note: There is no tax exemption for part-time scholarships.
  • Present pupils as well as transfers: Must have 12 months left for a Master’s by Research, or a minimum of 24 months left for a PhD.
  • Stipend ineligibility: Candidates for Master’s by Research stipends who have a Research Doctorate or its equivalent are not eligible. Likewise, a Research Doctorate or its equivalent precludes one from receiving a Doctoral stipend.
