International Research Tuition Scholarship (IRTS):

International Research Tuition Scholarships (IRTS) are given to deserving international students based on their academic record and evidence of their research aptitude. These students will receive a full living stipend during their degree programme, provided by external funding from organisations such as recognised sponsors or external scholarship awarding bodies.

Worth:

For PhD students, the IRTS complete fee waiver is valid for up to four years, and for Master of Research students, it is valid for up to two years. Overseas Student Health Coverage (OSHC), which is a requirement of the student visa, is not included in this award; applicants must make sure they have the proper coverage for themselves and their families, if any.

Eligibility:

In addition to fulfilling UniSA’s qualifying requirements, candidates need to be:

  • Starting students pursuing degrees in international research.
  • High calibre and proven capacity for research, as determined by UniSA.
  • Be enrolled in a research-rich environment and receive support from a robust supervisory panel (which, when appropriate, includes an end-user adviser).
  • Either receiving (or having been granted) a living stipend supported by outside funding, or receiving (or having been granted) a fully externally funded stipend scholarship.

Note: the living stipend must be in the form of an externally funded scholarship administered through the University, or in accordance with an industry partner, sponsorship body, or organisation.

Application Process:

  • Any project on the list is open to international students who have an external funding or scholarship. Some applicants would need to work with a UniSA supervisor to build their own project, and their sponsor or scholarship source might have extra requirements. More details on this are available here.
