The largest single donation ever made to a UK university, the Gates Cambridge Scholarship Programme was launched in October 2000 with a US$ 210 million gift to the University of Cambridge from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
In order to enable outstanding individuals from outside the United Kingdom to pursue a full-time postgraduate degree in any subject offered by the University of Cambridge, Gates Cambridge will award 80 full-cost scholarships in 2024. - A maintenance payment for a single student is available for up to four years for PhD researchers. It is £18,744 for twelve months at the 2022–2023 rate (pro rata for courses less than twelve months).
