The Herchel Smith PhD Scholarship Programme honours and provides assistance to outstanding full-time students who have the ability to significantly advance the field of intellectual property law. This curriculum assists individuals pursuing a PhD in intellectual property law as well as those pursuing research at the nexus of IP law and other humanistic and scientific fields.

The Queen Mary Intellectual Property Law Research Institute (QMIPRI) will employ the scholarship recipients to perform research support work and associated tasks for up to six hours per week during their study. Eligibility Criteria:

The following requirements must be met in order to be eligible for Intellectual Property PhD – Herchel Smith Scholarships:

  • The prize is intended for first-time applicants who plan to register in September 2024, the start of the upcoming academic year.
  • The applicant must be a PhD candidate in intellectual property law or be employed in a field that bridges intellectual property law with other disciplines in the humanities and sciences.
