Eligibility Criteria:

In order to qualify for an Award from the OWSD-Elsevier Foundation, candidates need to:

  • Be a woman who, in the last ten years, has obtained a PhD in a STEM field.
  • Perform up-to-date scientific studies related to the inclusive health field.
  • Show how their work advances our understanding of inclusive health and helps us achieve SDG 3: Good Health and Well-Being.
  • Match at least one of the following SDG3 target areas with their research:
    • Cutting down on infant and maternal deaths.
    • Fighting both non-communicable and infectious diseases.
    • Enhancing mental well-being and preventing drug misuse.
    • Improving the safety of roads.
    • Ensuring that sexual and reproductive healthcare is accessible to all.
    • Reaching Health Coverage for All.
    • Taking environmental health risks into consideration.
    • Bolstering cigarette control.
    • Encouraging the development of vaccines and medications for underdeveloped nations.
    • Boosting workforce and health funding capabilities.
    • Enhancing health crisis management, risk mitigation, and early warning.

Note: Applicants must explicitly state how their work specifically advances one or more of the SDG3 priority areas mentioned.

Those whose main area of study is in the humanities, arts, or social sciences are not qualified.

Application Process:

Who is eligible to apply?

OWSD is searching for outstanding female scientists who are contributing to the field of inclusive health. The accomplishment of Sustainable Development Goal 3 (SDG3), “Good health and well-being,” should be closely related to the findings of your study. You also need to have spent at least five years living and working in a recognised Science and Technology Lagging Country (STLC).

How to Submit an Application

Online applications only, in English, may be submitted. What you must have is as follows:

  • Proof of Residency: Documents attesting to your five years of continuous residence in an eligible STLC. A statement from the local government, a rental agreement, utility bills, or a contract of employment are examples of acceptable documents.   • Contribution to SDG3: Give proof of how your study advances the objective of good health and wellbeing.
  • The Reasons You Merit This Award: Write a strong statement (no more than 2500 characters) outlining your qualifications for the position. Emphasise the calibre of your work, your professional accomplishments, the influence of your research, and any obstacles you’ve surmounted while pursuing science.
  • Documents in Support: Add your resume, a comprehensive list of your publications, your PhD diploma, and at least two reference letters (on official letterhead) from top scientists who are acquainted with your work.
